My teaching philosophy is grounded in my training in instructional design and my commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
To maximize engagement, I embed live polling throughout my lectures at a brisk, deliberate pace. This incentivizes continuous active student responding and allows me to make in-the-moment adjustments to my instruction. These polling questions utilize concept analysis to efficiently build content mastery and consistently conclude with opportunities for anonymous student feedback. Furthermore, my students receive explicit study objectives and frequent examinations, which promote transparent performance expectations and high rates of performance feedback, respectively.
I center DEI by weaving diverse everyday examples of concepts and applications into my curriculum. My flexible course policies for dropped and replaced assignments accommodate all learners' life circumstances during the semester within reason. Additionally, I prioritize the use of positive reinforcement through structured extra credit opportunities that reward content mastery as well as explicit praise that privately recognizes high or accelerating performance across examinations.
